Poetic Dancing of Han Tang
A glimpse into Chinese history through fashion.

Offering a fascinating glimpse into the fashion history of China with some truly beautiful hàn fú, demonstrations of court etiquette, Tang dynasty dances, and including an enchanting zither performance on a gǔzhēng it is safe to say that if you're interested in Chinese cultural history this is the show to watch. Not only do the performers dress in a myriad of historic styles but there are also moments of explanation of how and why fashions changed throughout the centuries and their impact on court dance styles. My personal favourite has to have been the demonstration of water sleeves; the strength and control needed to not only move the fabric the right distance and direction but also make it look effortlessly weightless was masterfully showcased by the dancer.
A calming and casually educational reprieve from the hustle and bustle that the Edinburgh FRINGE is known for the Edinburgh Chinese Arts Association’s Poetic Dancing of Han Tang is a beautiful showcase of Chinese’s long cultural history. There were a couple of tech issues and it was a more of a presentation then a performance I would still highly recommend seeing it and showing the ECAA some support.
